The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is Australia's leading environmental wildlife experience. They were the winner of the Tropical North Queensland Significant Tourist Attraction 2001 and 2002, Major Tourist Attraction 2000, Queensland Environmental Tourism Award and achievement of Advanced Ecotourism Accreditation. The Habitat now boasts over 1600 animals and continues to expand. Informative guided tours, experiential displays and immersion exhibits provide an experience found nowhere else.
A leader in its field of wildlife immersion exhibits, the award winning Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary provides visitors with a chance to observe up close a huge range of flora and fauna. Visitors can wander through three different and unique environments that depict over 180 species of the surrounding rainforest, wetlands, woodlands and grasslands.
The Rainforest leads guests through a lush, tranquil environment where the endemic Boyd's Forest Dragon, Eclectus Parrots and Green Tree Frogs can be viewed in a natural setting. In the Wetlands visitors can view an array of wading birds, macropods, fruit bats and a multitude of bird species. The Koala Habitat is an open-air exhibit that provides visitors with an eye level view of this spectacular marsupial, and provides close encounters and photo opportunities with koalas. While in the grasslands visitors can stroll through open-air parklands, hand feed the kangaroos, observe the fascinating Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo and view crocodiles in the natural billabongs.
For the ultimate, the original Breakfast with the Birds is a visitor must do. Guests are immersed within the Wetlands environment whilst enjoying the cacophony of sounds and colours of wildlife as they wander freely amongst the guests. With one of Queenslands best tropical buffets, Breakfast with the Birds is an experience not to be missed.
Informative guided tours are available throughout the day, where experienced guides introduce visitors to the special interdependence that the wildlife shares with The Wet Tropics region.
